The worst of times….

News reaches us that Silicon’s elfin tomboy, the very lovely Jo Best, is leaving our shores for Australia.

First the long hours, then the endless metrics and now this. It’s a dark day for all PRs.

On the bright side, there’s a senior reporter role at Silicon for anyone that knows a bit about mobile phones….

Yes, I'm afraid it's true. But that does mean silicon.com is now looking for a new senior reporter. We're looking for someone with a good grasp of business and technology and two or more years experience. Interested? Drop an email to me - steve.ranger@silicon.com.

This just in from Jo:

This elfin tomboy is indeed off to pastures new. That said, I’m not leaving the beloved CNET completely – I’ll be off to ZDNet Australia , covering all things communications/mobile/the usual.

I’ll be very sad to say goodbye to my silicon colleagues and chums in PR but I’m hoping the blue skies and sandy beaches of Sydney will help numb the pain.

If you’ve got clients Down Under/with an Aussie presence, or if you’re ever in the Antipodes and fancy a beer, my generic CNET email will still be working – jo.best@cnet.com – so no need to stop sending those press releases...

I’ll be having a leaving do at some point next week, so if any of the dedicated PR lovelies fancy saying goodbye over a rum and coke, they’d be warmly welcomed.

Sort it out TWL. This place is becoming a silicon.com notice board. What next? News of Will Sturgeon's holiday plans and Andy McCue's favourite shirt and tie combination? Frankly, I expect better.

Yours,
Annoyed in Soho

Don't you believe it...they just need someone to buy the drinks.

Pink checked shirt with black tie with small white spots...or maybe a classic white shirt with blue silk tie?

Anyway Samuels, it makes a change from you waffling on about Aston Villa (not that I have anything against that), Warwick, or obscure French avant garde rock bands...

Personal, eh? Well I like the fact that if you search Google with the phrase 'Andy McCue onions', you get that bloody rubbish I posted on TWL about your wedding night. Lest we forget...

Err, that Andy McCue at Silicon. Well he likes pickled onions. And on his wedding night, a woman gave him a jar. And do you know what? He ate the lot.

...of course, by posting it again I am feeding the lie. But I want the onion story to become the most referenced McCue link on the interweb.

People will say: 'Andy McCue, a journalist? Oh, I just thought he was a guy that liked onions.'
